A Couple of Recent
Emails
I just
got out of an assembly by Randall Eller on the magic of
smart choices.
It was wonderful
Best for about grades 1-5
He talks about the brain and what violent video games,
guns, drugs, etc. do to the brain and gives the kids a 30
day challenge to stop watching tv and playing video
games. He does cool tricks and the kids loved
it. He will mail the kids a free dvd on magic if they
meet the 30 day challenge - keeping a simple log and parent
signatures.
OK, yes, kids could cheat. What a great way to TRY
though and to get parent involvement. He has studies
that show that kids who stop watching and playing violent
tv/video games have a decrease in violence/acting out at
school.
This would be awesome to do in the fall in conjunction with
red ribbon week. I'm asking him to come back in mid
Sept. 2006 and challenge kids again. This will be my
red ribbon week project. I'll promote the 30 day
challenge on radio, newspaper, etc. and then start Oct.
1. Our school will have a celebration at the end of
30 days - which will be the same day as the end of red
ribbon week. I'll put up a big 30 day count down
outside my room at school and teachers will be asked to
participate as well. I'm sure our parent teacher
organization will sponsor prizes for students and teachers
who meet the goal.
Anyone else want to join me? I'd love to organize
this at least with my fellow Independence county
counselors. We could all set dates for Randall to
come in Sept. to challenge the kids. Contact me if
you want to do this together. I'll see many of you
may 9th at the Melbourne co-op meeting - i'll bring
pictures of the event then and more info if you want it.
If you want randall to come to your school, call

he has days open in May. call soon!

Mr. Eller:
Thank you so much for coming to Western Yell County
Elementary School! The Project Safe Neighborhoods program
was EXCELLENT! I would highly recommend it to the other
schools. The program was both entertaining and informative.
Our students and faculty really enjoyed the programs! I
appreciate your willingness to provide 2 sessions, one for
K-2 and one for 3-5.
Thank you for reinforcing what it takes to be a strong,
powerful person (character), the choices we make, and what
to do when finding /or being shown a handgun. I think this
is very valuable information that all students need to
know.
If possible, I would like to ask you to return to WYC next
year. We can coordinate schedules at a later date.
Again, thank you so much for coming to Western Yell County
Elementary. It was a pleasure to meet you, and I appreciate
your
dedication to kids!
Sincerely,
Debra Sharp

About
Randall
Randall's
passion has always been to help others, it's no surprise
Randall has a degree in Social Work. He has a desire to use
his talents as an illusionist to help young people see the
traps, the illusions, that are present in our lives; the
illusion that
bullying
is a sign of strength, the illusion that having
respect for others
is weak, the illusion that any behavior is ok as long as
you don't get caught.
Randall
challenges his audience to reject the often held illusion
that strength is having power over someone and adopt the
truth that strength is treating people with respect. He
invites them to reject the illusion that "success" is the
accumulation of "things". He teaches that REAL success is
found by following 3 steps:
1- Respect For Self
2- Respect For Others
3- Responsibility For All Our Actions
Randall also uses volunteers to help illustrate how
consequences come with every decision we make. Randall
shares with his audience techniques that will help sharpen
their decision making skills. Randall has used his
successful teaching style for school districts in 19
states. If you would like Randall to be a part of your
Character Development curriculum, you may contact him by:
